When I asked my brother (25 years ago) what he would like for his birthday and Christmas, he said a Siberian
husky. I had heard of the breed previously but did not know a great deal about them at that time. Needless to say,
Sitka, a beautiful black and white husky was what he received as a gift that year. What I didn't realize at the time
was that she was a gift to the whole family. Sweet, loving and very animated, she brought many years of love and happiness
to all of us.
A couple of years after adding Sitka to the family, I decided to get a husky of my own. I purchased a black
& white male puppy whom I named Buddy, for obvious reasons. Other than my full time job, Buddy was my constant companion.
When I worked on my rental properties in RI, Buddy would come in and lie down as I painted and renovated or, should the unit
be occupied, he would wait for me in the cab of the truck, sometimes for a few hours at a time.
I married and moved to MS in the late 1980's and of course brought Buddy with me. Being fortunate enough
not to have to hold a full time job, I decided to try my hand at raising a few litters of husky puppies. I adopted a
gray and white female husky whom a lady could no longer keep. Niki taught me everything I needed to know about
birthing and raising these wonderful bundles of joy. It was amazing to me to see the love between mother and pups and
to watch the training and discipline Niki taught her puppy children. Did you know you never eat out of the bowl of the
alpha until She is done eating? As the puppies grew and developed, you could see their personalities coming out
and the pack hierarchy starting to form. Life with dogs is heaven on earth.
I later purchased a red and white female puppy locally whom I named Spicy. She was oh, so sweet and
loving. Spicy, Niki and Buddy were my foundation dogs for the start of Florence Kennels. We are located in Florence,
Mississippi and hence the name of the kennel.
Over the years, I kept back some puppies, brought in a few new lines always selecting for health, good looks
and sweet, laid back temperaments. In the 90's I acquired two solid white huskies. One came from Terry, MS and
the other came from north Mississippi. As huskies go, neither one was show quality. However, I selected for them
mates who would compliment their shortcomings. It has taken a while but, I think you will agree, we have some of the
prettiest white huskies on the Internet. As a matter of fact, any of our huskies (blacks, grays, reds, or pied's) can
stand up as some of the prettiest you will find.
In the late 90's we decided to change our name to Florence MORNING STAR Kennel. We kept Florence as a part of the
name since we now had name recognition. Morning Star is not only a beautiful name but it has religious significance
to Jesus and the Blessed Mother, both of whom have been referred to as the Morning Star. It is our way of honoring the
Giver of the gift.
We have kept younger breeding stock so that we may continue the tradition of raising quality Siberian huskies
for families to love and enjoy. We only breed for a few litters during the fall/winter/spring seasons. If
we can help you in any way, either with a puppy, answering a question or guiding you in your decision, please let us know.
Siberian huskies are not for everyone but if your lifestyles are compatible, you are in for the most joyous time of your life!
